A kitchen is often the busiest room in the house.

It's also the most complex room to build, with a wide range of built-in features and appliances, together with services such as electricity, water and gas.

Bathrooms are also specialised rooms, with many built-in features customised to the needs of the occupants.

The purpose of this unit is to provide an overview of the processes involved in installing a kitchen or bathroom.

We won't go into the details of cabinet manufacture or installation, because these are covered in other units in the Kitchen and Bathroom Cabinetmaking qualification.

But we will look at the sequence of stages, the people involved, construction methods, and the main factors that determine the quality of the finished project.
